Banh phu the (husband and wife cake) is a traditional Vietnamese dessert made from rice starch, shredded coconut and green papaya, mung bean, pork fat and sugar. The cakes are wrapped in two layers of boiled la dong (Phrynium placentarium) and one layer of fresh la dong. They are usually sold in pairs tied with bamboo strings dyed in pink. "Banh Phu The" is used for engagement ceremony in several areas of the country.
